HOWARD T. AILOR

Howard Ailor landed six times at Parks Airport between August 4, 1929 and June 9, 1931. Each time he flew Waco aircraft. He flew on those dates, respectively, NC639Y, NC634N, NC860V (twice), NC112 and NC11437. He probably remained overnight in St. Louis at least one night, on June 9, 1930, because he noted "Jefferson" in the Remarks column of the Register. There is no information I could find regarding a Jefferson Hotel in the St. Louis area. Does anyone KNOW about a "Jefferson" (hotel) in the area?

It is little surprise that he was flying Waco aircraft, because Ailor was the Waco sales operative at Roosevelt Field, NY. Earlier, in 1929, Ailor accompanied the Ford Reliability Tour in a Waco that was described simply as "Waco Service Ship." He was not competing; simply acting as support for the Waco team. First and second places in the Tour that year were taken by Waco aircraft.

Ailor later (1935 & 1936) landed twice at the Davis-Monthan Airfield. Howard Ailor's biography is online at the Davis-Monthan Airfield Register Web site at the link. He was born September 17, 1897 and died during October, 1962, age 65. I have no photographs of Ailor. If you have some you would like to share, please let me KNOW.
