MILDRED CLEMA (BAXTER) GRANGER

Clema Granger landed and signed the Registers of three of the Delta Mike Airfield, Inc. suite. She signed the Davis-Monthan Register twice and the Clover Field Register once. She signed the Parks Register Friday, August 28, 1931 flying the Swallow she identified as NC8730. Please direct your browser to the airplane's link for photographs and downloads.

She married fellow Register pilot James E. Granger on April 29, 1911 in Los Angeles, CA. Jim Granger was her flight instructor. They had a son, Norman, who contributed information for Clema's biography page at the Davis-Monthan Airfield Register Web site at the link. As a family, they were part of the story of west coast aviation during the Golden Age.

At their biography links, above, is an essay on "The Golden Age of Local Air Racing", which focuses on that subject near and around Santa Monica's Clover Field during the time Jim and Clema were in residence there. Please download the essay at their links.

Above, her portrait with Jim from the Granger Family Album. Clema Granger was born on Sept 25, 1893, in Oskaloosa, IA and died on June 28, 1983 in Palmdale, CA. She held Transport pilot certificate T1542.
