TRAVEL AIR 4-D NC5426

NC5426 landed once at East St. Louis. It is recorded in the Register on Wednesday, May 29, 1929. It was flown, apparently solo, by D.C. Warren. Based at Oakland, CA, his destination was cited as Parks Airport. Below, courtesy of the San Diego Aerospace Museum Flickr Stream (SDAM), are two photos of NC5426. The first shows just the fuselage of NR5426 (note the "restricted" registration).

NC5426 rests in front of Boeing hangar #5. Of interest in the far right background is the profile of a Fokker F-32. Only two flew the passenger route between Los Angeles and San Francisco. They were NC333N and NC334N. The airplane in the background is one of them.

The second SDAM photograph, below, was also taken at Oakland about a year earlier, on August 25, 1929. Missing in the later photo above is the fuselage livery advertising D.C. Warren's business (see his link above).

Note the underground fueling station at lower left. The hose was coiled under the steel doors. The pilot is unidentifiable.

NC5426 also landed once and is signed in the Davis-Monthan Airfield Register, Tucson, AZ. Please follow the link to learn more about this airplane and the circumstances of its landing at Tucson.
