LOCKHEED VEGA NC6526

This airplane is a model Vega 1 manufactured July 6, 1928 by the Lockheed Aircraft Corporation, Burbank, CA. It was S/N 9, a very early airframe. It left the factory with a Wright Whirlwind J5C engine of 220HP, S/N 8554. It was a five-place aircraft weighing 2,900 pounds. It was sold on July 10, 1928 to Maddux Air Lines, Inc., Los Angeles, CA.

NC6526 landed once at Parks Airport, on Monday, December 7, 1931 at 10:00AM. It was flown by John Joseph Harrigan, based at Detroit, MI. There is no information concerning passengers in the Register. His destination was Burbank, CA, where the Lockheed factory was located. His stop at East St. Louis was probably for fuel and rest before he continued west.

Like many Golden Age aircraft NC6526 had a short life (9 years), exchanged hands many times (10), and suffered its share of accidents (5). NC6526 also landed 33 times at the Grand Central Air Terminal (GCAT). Its full technography and chain of custody, including photos, are over at the GCAT site at the link. Compare his date of Harrigan's landing with the modifications to the airplane that were being performed at that time. There is probably some correlation with them and Harrigan's trip to the factory.
