JEAN LaRENE

Jean LaRene, August, 1931 (Source: Web)

Jean LaRene participated in the 1931 National Air Races (NAR) from California to Cleveland, OH, and that cross-country event is what brought her to Parks Airport sometime between August 28 and 30, 1931 (she didn't enter a date or time in the Register). She flew the Rearwin Ken-Royce she identified as NC592H.

She was on her way from Santa Monica, CA to Cleveland, OH, the finish line for the NAR that year. Six other Register signers were on the same itinerary, landing between 11AM and 1PM. Besides LaRene, among them were G.W. Harte, Clema Granger, James Granger, Mary Charles , H.C. Lippiatt and R.L. Hahn.

Besides her single landing at Parks Airport, she landed once at Clover Field on Sunday, August 16, 1931, just a week before we meet her at Parks Airport. Her landing at Santa Monica was a day before the NAR began. Photo above captures her just hours before she departed.

She also landed twice and signed the Register at the Davis-Monthan Airfield. Her first landing there was on Monday, August 24, 1931, just a few days before reaching Parks Airport. She arrived at Tucson from Phoenix, AZ and departed to Douglas, AZ. At that landing she was competing in the Race, and was just a couple of stops along the route.

He second landing at Tucson was also in association with the NAR. It occurred a year later on Monday, August 22, 1932. She was again eastbound from Los Angeles, CA to Cleveland, OH. Each of her landings at all the airfields was made in the cream, orange and black Rearwin Ken-Royce NC592H.
