Ruth M. Nichols was a prominent, educated and well-traveled woman. She was a force not only in the aviation community, but in the Golden Age social scene as well. Through her career, she was an outstanding international ambassador of compassion and goodwill.

Ruth Nichols landed once at Parks Airport, Saturday, August 24, 1929. She was part of the group of female pilots who signed the Register on page 5 when they arrived during the 1929 National Air Races. She flew the Rearwin Ken-Royce she identified as NR44E.

St. Louis that year was an overnight stop for the competitors in the first Women's Derby held in conjunction with the Races. Please direct your browser to the link above for details about the Women's Derby.

Ruth Nichols landed once and signed the Register at the Davis-Monthan Airfield Register on Monday, May 6, 1929. Nichols' full biography is at the Davis-Monthan Register Web site at the link. Please direct your browser there to view a terrific selection of memorabilia from the 1929 Women's Derby, as well as other photographs of her and her airplanes. Below, a photograph of her in NR44E, race number 16, on the ground at Parks Airport. She carried Transport certificate T326.
